Space Whale
Space Whale
The Space Whale was fabricated in 2016 by The Pier Group at The Generator in Sparks, NV for Burning Man 2016. My partner and I were welder fabricators on this project. The Space Whale is built from round stock and stained glass with thousands of small gussets that hold in each individual stained glass panel. After being featured as the main keyhole project at Burning Man 2016 the Space Whale was temporarily placed in City Plaza in Reno, Nevada.
Sprocket's main role as a fabricator on this project is to install all of the brackets that anchor the stained glass panels. This is the fluke of the baby whale while brackets are being installed before the glass.
The Mama whale needed many new brackets to secure the glass panels before installation in downtown Reno. Sprocket was happy more than happy to help with welding.
The Space Whale will be installed in Reno, NV at the City Plaza for one year. Getting the mama whale and her calf ready for their semi-permanent home in a major city requires a lot more fabrication work. Sprocket has rejoined her whale family of volunteers to help with this process. The Whale will be installed in July 2017.
